How can people really say that equality is an American value?

I mean seriously. Does anyone over the age of 10 really think that equality is important to America? Have you seen American Policy? Do you see how America functions?

I’m not trying to say that we should’t make efforts to create equality, and fight for equality. But lets cut the shit. Equality is not an American value. If you are going to fight for equality, you are going to have to fight for equality to be seen as valuable as well.

Unless you are a white, heterosexual, middle/upperclass cis-male. In that case, you can just say it is a sign of inequality if you can’t do something and the government will bend over backwards to fix it.

Welp

I am now the creator of a post with over 3,000 notes.

The wrote about loving yourself from Daniel Franzese, now has 3,926 notes.

This is strange. I honestly can’t wait for people to stop re-blogging/liking it, because it is kinda hogging my dashboard. And although it is a great quote, I feel like there are waaaay more powerful quotes floating around on tumblr that don’t get near the amount of circulation.

Loving yourself is a great thing, and a great message to spread. But so is knowledge of white privilege and institutionalized racism. These are things that need to be more widely talked about. And I think it is really indicative of the kind of culture we live in when a quote from a star of Mean Girls gets more attention then quotes from groundbreaking books authored by highly educated individuals who are experts in their fields.

I’m not saying this surprises me. But I still find it pretty fucking sad.

A QUOTE

Why isn’t every woman a feminist? Feminism tells a tale of female injury, but the average woman in heterosexual intimacy knows that men are injured to, as indeed they are. She may be willing to grant, this average women, that men in general have more power than women in general. This undoubted fact is merely a fact; it is abstract, while the man of flesh and blood who stands before her is concrete; His hurts are real, his fears palpable. And like those heroic doctors on the late show who work tirelessly through the epidemic even though they may be fainting from fatigue, the woman in intimacy may set her own needs to one side in order to better attend to his. She does this not because she is “chauvinized” or has “false conciousness,” but because this is what the work requires. Indeed, she may even excuse the man’s abuse of her, having glimpsed the great reservoir of pain and rage from which it issues. Here is a further gloss on the ethical disempowerment attendant upon women’s caregiving: In such a situation, a woman may be tempted to collude in her own ill-treatment.

A QUOTE

The metaphor cannot be missed: Women’s strength is, in the right situations, an enormous threat to the existing authority. Oppression cannot hold if women come into their own power, and therefore men demand – either for women’s “protection,” or for the sake of holding on to that power – that we dress up in demure outfits, twirl in our gorgeous dresses, and mask our power behind a silly smile.

The fight that Katniss endured is one that we all face, as society and media tell us again and again that our job is to sit down, look pretty, and play by their rules. It is only by subverting those rules that we can hope to enact changes that leave us stronger, and freer, than when we started playing the game.

I can’t wait

I cannot wait until I ONLY have either school, or work to worry about. My job is fucking hell right now. I didn’t think I’d have a job where I would have to worry about results and stats and things until after I graduated. But no, I have to worry about it now, while I am also worrying about somehow writing 100 fucking pages within the next 2 weeks, and balancing that with my work, as well as the “honorarium”  I am a member of. While also somehow finding a place to live for next year. And I have to handle all of this stress all by my fucking self.

Well, not all by myself. I have wine there to guide me.

If you have a schedule and tasks similar to this, and find it easy to handle, please share with me how you do it. Bonus points if you also somehow find a way to make it to the gyms. Because I feel like my thighs are repulsive.

Happy lighter-skinned murderer, angry black kid. Fox News.

Not that it fucking matters, because even if Trayvon was an “angry black kid,” he STILL would not have deserved to get shot. Trayvon was walking home from a convenience store and was considered a criminal because he is black. His attitude did not have anything to do with it. Zimmerman had called 911 and was following him before he had any idea of what Trayvon’s demeanor was like.
